Where There's a "Wheel" There's a Way!

At Salty Family Services we enter into various families’ lives during a very vulnerable time. While they are willing to share the blessings received through mentorship with Salty Family Services, they are not always prepared to be in the spotlight. Out of respect for this family’s wishes, we are sharing this sweet story in a unique way.

A young mother found herself without a job due to circumstances beyond her control and, subsequently, fell behind on rent. She reached out to Salty Family Services for help and was connected with a mentor, assistance with rent and even some furniture for her apartment.

She was resourceful in finding a new job, one where she could work remotely. She shared with her mentor that she does not like driving a car and, in fact, does not own a vehicle. For her to work effectively at home, however, she needed to get her two young children to daycare. Her only option was to use public transportation, which took 2 hours roundtrip to drop them off in the morning and return home to work. At the end of her work day, she had the same 2-hour round trip.

Salty Family Services was able to help her with a bus pass while we sought a better solution. The goal was to find a bicycle. Her mentor began reaching out, and thanks to a generous donation, a bike and a trailer that she could attach and use to transport her children were provided. As soon as the bike was delivered, this young mother jumped on and recorded the video you see here. Using her new wheels, the round trip to daycare now only takes 40 minutes—a huge time-saving!

This determined young mother still has a long road ahead of her to return to a more stable life. She is working with her mentor on a budget, including learning to track expenses. She is also working on rebuilding important relationships in her life. Through all of her challenges, she keeps her eyes fixed on God, leans on her faith, and prays through all circumstances.
