Building a Stronger Family Around the Dinner Table
Amy is a single mother of two who works full-time as a teacher at a Christian school. She also cares for her mother, who has dementia.
After a recent divorce, Amy found herself in need of financial support and reached out to Salty Family Services. She expressed to our team that beyond financial help, she needed a mentor. Juggling the responsibilities of caring for her mother, her children, and budgeting issues had made life overwhelming.
Amy’s mentor began working with Amy on a household budget. Amy had also shared that she desired to create a stable home for her kids. As Amy opened up about her struggles, she allowed the mentor to guide her through these challenges. The mentor shared that, “Amy has been so eager to learn anything that will help her be a better mom.” One strategy that resonated with Amy was the idea of having regular family meals together. Amy realized that family dinners could be a time to intentionally connect with her kids and learn about their daily lives—something she never experienced growing up. Committed to making a change, she has now incorporated family meals into their daily routine, and the positive impact on her children has already become clear. They are responding well, and the family is experiencing a positive shift.
As Amy continues to focus on both financial and parenting skills with the help of her mentor, she is steadily moving toward her goal of creating a stable and nurturing home for her children. She is becoming empowered to give them the guidance she lacked growing up, creating the potential for a powerful generational shift. We are grateful for God’s hand in guiding this family to such a hopeful place.
