Faith in the Face of Adversity
CC, a mother of three, received a devastating diagnosis of a brain tumor. Working as a hairdresser, she found herself unable to stand and perform her job due to her illness, leading her to stop working in February. The small bereavement SSI benefit that her son receives each month helps pay bills but is insufficient to cover all expenses. Seeking financial assistance, she turned to Salty Family Services and was paired with a mentor.
Together, CC and her mentor began working on a budget and discussing practical issues, including identifying additional sources of assistance. Their conversations also delved deeply into matters of faith. CC expressed her belief that God was testing her resilience and trust in Him. “We spent quite a bit of time talking about the Lord being trustworthy and sovereign, and that He promises to fight our battles but requires our cooperation,” her mentor explained.
During these meetings, it was discovered that the tumor had grown. The neurologist recommended a risky surgery, which was scheduled for a later date at the time of writing.
CC has a close friend, a pastor in the community, whose church joined with Salty Family Services in providing financial assistance. Seeing God’s provisions, CC felt moved to solidify her life long journey with Jesus. She asked her dear friend to baptize her before her surgery.
During the baptism, CC heard an audible voice saying, “I am with you.” Her mentor and her young adult daughter were present to witness the event. Afterward, they all joined together to partake in communion. We celebrate this commitment and the promise contained within.
