A Journey of Faith, Growth and Giving Back

It is always fulfilling to work with families and witness the positive transformations in their lives. It is an even greater blessing to see those we’ve helped extend encouragement and support to others in the community.

Ami’s story is a testament to this. After losing her job and being unemployed for several months, she fell behind on her rent and faced the threat of eviction. Seeking help, she reached out to Salty Family Services and was paired with a mentor. From the outset, Ami expressed her eagerness to learn from her mentor and grow from the experience.

When Ami began meeting with her mentor, she had just started a new job and was focused on improving her financial health. While she grew up in a loving family, they often took care of things for her rather than teaching her independence. As a result, Ami admitted she needed guidance with budgeting. Under her mentor’s direction, she learned to manage her finances more intentionally, considering her future and building an emergency fund.

Beyond finances, Ami has also prioritized her spiritual growth. Her mentor quickly recognized her strong faith rooted in her church upbringing. Ami regularly attends church and begins each day in prayer with her son. Feeling more secure in managing her practical responsibilities, Ami has grown more active in her church community, including joining a discipleship group.

Ami shared with her mentor the many ways she has seen God working in her life:

•She can now pay her rent and bills on time.

•Her spiritual walk has deepened through fasting, prayer, and studying the Bible.

•She encourages her coworkers in their faith at her job.

As Ami has grown in her faith and stability, she has started to reach out and support others. One story stands out as particularly impactful:

Recently, Ami met a single mother of three who had escaped an abusive marriage and was working two jobs to make ends meet. This young mother’s story reminded Ami of her own struggles as a single mom juggling two jobs. During their conversation, the mother shared that much of her weekend earnings went to pay for childcare because her daycare wasn’t open.

Feeling called to help, Ami offered to babysit the children for free. Despite the mother’s insistence on paying her, Ami refused, committing to provide this help for a few weekends until the woman could find a better solution. Ami explained that she wanted to give back because of all the blessings God has poured into her life.

Ami’s journey reflects the profound growth of her faith and her desire to serve others. Her story is a powerful example of how one person’s transformation can inspire and uplift another in their time of need.
